Introduction (Sao Paulo Skateboarding Story Context)

The story of Plaza Sopa de Letras and Luiza Erundina

In mid 80's (1986-89) Skateboarding was banned by São Paulo's mayor, Jânio Quadros.

Skateboarders went to the streets in protest and ended in Ibirapuera Park, Quadros issued an arrest warrant for skateboarders caught all over the city.

The only hope at that point was a strong woman called Luiza Erundina: she was the key piece we needed. Erundina always had sympathy with skateboarding.

Erundina was elected and removed the restriction on skateboarding in São Paulo's public squares and streets.

The Margarida de Albuquerque Gimenez "Sopa de Letras" square was one of the first places to practice skateboarding in public in São Paulo. Sopa de Letras square is one of the most historical places for skateboarding culture in São Paulo, a huge capital with 17 million residents.

Noungnarversary
We managed lot of progress in Sopa de Letras because "noungnarversary" - at prophouse - supported DYA creation: a dedicated event at skateboarding day with just 1ETH.
São Paulo is brutal and breathes culture. The city houses a large variety of skateboarder scenes, crews and talents. Gnars events in São Paulo atracted all the juicy audience.
Tricks for coins! That was the event climax. All skateboarders were able to participate aiming the desired Top 3 and its rewards. What a blast!
Seven open-air skateboard movie sessions project into square's wall.
Movie sessions and Gnars interactions were totally open for general public, anyone passing by was invited to a great open-air cultural party

Construction took place over the course of a couple days to prepare for our event. It promises an unforgettable day filled with excitement, featuring the premiere of the "Uncharted Waves"movie, four additional local films, skating competitions with cash prizes, raffles for skate decks, and dance floor entertainment by four DJs. Everything was ready for the big day.Created by Will Dias to celebrate the Gnarversary, Uncharted Waves is an exciting bodyboarding adventure that takes you on a thrilling ride through the streets of greater Sao Paulo.

Proposal Objectives

There's a big problem with the floor that we skate on, it's all rough and urgently needs smoothing out because when we fall off our skateboards it will definitely hurts. The square needs a solid maintenance, there are many holes that have appeared over time, these same holes are a hindrance to skateboarding.

This proposal has two important objectives.

  1. Allow me and my local community to continue renovating and renewing the square with ideas and events aimed at public goods.

  2. Create an increasingly pleasant safe place for everyone.

The floor is all rough.

Smoothen the floor and paint it and make a gnars painting and a new obstacle

Reform the curb and put a new angle bracket, because time has made them rusty.
