TL;DR

Requesting 3500 USDC from Gnars treasury to assist us in producing "Synopsis", a 5-6 minute skateboarding film. Our goal is to show the culture, lifestyle, and creativity of skateboarding in a cool way that anyone can enjoy, no matter their age or gender, as well as aspire to inspire the next generation of skaters to keep the street culture and lifestyle that comes with skateboarding alive.

"Synopsis" film concept

Authored by D. Skiadaresis, film director/editor/skateboarder.

Everyday life, the obligations of large cities, and the stress of modern life have contributed to the creation of lifeless bodies within the real-life network. Each of us follows our own path daily, often unaware of the changes in the city and among our fellow humans. The outlook of the new world is becoming increasingly monochromatic, lacking aesthetics, empathy, and creativity. A skater spends hours every day on the streets, skateboarding. Public places, among others, such as schoolyards during class breaks, alone, with other skaters, or with their filmer, are some of the conditions under which one can enjoy skateboarding. Undoubtedly, skaters are a dynamic organism within the network. They observe every new human intervention in their environment while simultaneously being quite creative within it.

Through this project, our intention is to showcase the identity and culture of individuals or groups of people involved in skateboarding within their city. This approach aims to highlight various points within the urban fabric, as skateboarding is an integral part of its identity. The film we want to present will consist of small sections that will help in highlighting both the culture and identity.

CHAPTER ONE

In the first part, we would like to focus on the self-exposure aspect of a skater within the real-life network. Skateboarding amidst a crowd of strangers shares several commonalities with a live performance by an artist, making it unique. A scene of a skater in the city center, whether attempting a new trick or simply enjoying the moment, evokes mixed emotions for the audience.

CHAPTER TWO

The second part will delve into the creative aspect of a skater's identity. Skateboarding as a sport is not limited to or encountered only within city centers and parks. This is related to the creative perspective and the exploration of new spots that a skater seeks. An abandoned building, an industrial area, or a road within a vast forest area are some sources of creativity that a skateboarder can draw from.

CHAPTER THREE

The third point focuses on the aspect of community and friendship during skateboarding. We want to show the beautiful energy that exists within a group of individuals and the support that one skater receives from another. In today's era, where most of our time is spent on constant information consumption and exchanging insincere applause through social networks, it is refreshing to see groups of people shaping their social stimuli differently and developing genuine relationships with their fellow human beings.

CHAPTER FOUR

The fourth and final part showcases a skater with their filmer. During the realization of a skate project, every skater closely collaborates with a filmer, spending a considerable amount of time together. A filmer plays a significant role in revealing the identity of a skater, as they must discover the facets of the individual's identity. Simultaneously, they shape the aesthetics and determine the final outcome of the video.

CLOSURE

Based on all the above elements we presented, we aim to highlight a film with a dynamic perspective towards all communities and groups of people regardless of gender and age. Therefore, we are working on the implementation of a visual and auditory skate film project, realistically observing the four sections mentioned earlier, creating a cohesive whole that will showcase the identity and culture of skateboarding.

As a reference to our work, here's a teaser with footage we already filmed and won't be using in the official film

Why should Gnars fund "Synopsis" skateboarding film?

Gnars mission is to proliferate the extreme sports culture all over the globe by supporting and funding public goods, and we believe that a documentary showcasing the skateboarding culture and the fun that comes from skateboarding is a public good, a public good that will keep on giving inspiration to the future generations for years to come.

The team behind the film consists of core skateboarders who are concerned about the direction mainstream skateboarding is heading to. We see this film as an opportunity to redirect the focus back to the roots.

By funding "Synopsis," Gnars will not only support the creation of an engaging and visually captivating film but also contribute to the preservation of an entire culture. This film will serve as a testament to the resilience and creativity of skateboarders, inspiring future generations to embrace the culture and lifestyle of skateboarding that's slowly been replaced with fake idols, SLS bullshit and fast media.

With Gnars support, we can bring the best version of this film to life and play our part in ensuring that the authentic skateboarding culture continues to thrive for years to come.

The "Synopsis" film team consists of 3 key persons

Thanos has a lot of style on his board, a big bag of tricks and plenty of creativity, which makes him an ideal skater to be featured in "Synopsis". Being in his prime (25 years old), Thanos can easily shred plenty of street spots no problem and his passion for skateboarding injects energy into every session.

Plus, everyone we meet

Haris, Dimitris, and Thanos form the core team but as we journey through different cities, we will connect with fellow skateboarders, shred/film together and feature them in our film. Because at its core, skateboarding is about community, unity, and a shared love for the culture.
